So much of the focus on leadership development is on developing the skills of individual leaders. With his background in systems design and systems thinking, Dan Edds kept wondering if the real key to leadership was to take a step back and focus on a system approach to leadership skills.

On this episode of The Workplace Communication Podcast, Dan shares research and insights on a system approach to leadership from his book Leveraging the Genetics of Leadership: Cracking the Code of Sustainable Team Performance.

Leadership tips you won’t want to miss:

🎙️ How high-impact organizations approach leadership as a system

🎙️ The perils of not capturing the voice of those lower in the organization

🎙️ The power of training leaders to not solve others’ problems

🎙️ Identifying foundational behaviours that support your organization’s values

🎙️ The significance of grading leaders on how they model foundational behaviours

For 25 years Dan Edds has been a practicing management consultant, working primarily with state & local government, healthcare, K-12 education, higher education, and non-profits. He is the author of 2 books, the first, Transformation Management, and his most recent book, Leveraging the Genetics of Leadership, Cracking the code of sustainable team performance. His latest book looks at how organizations which consistently perform at very high-levels approach the practice of leadership. The result of this research is the conclusion that leadership can be modeled as an organizational system.
